Are you in the mood to stream anything but holiday-themed movies and TV shows? If so, check out Netflix this week.
Look, I don’t have anything against streaming holiday-themed programming. We’ve already watched a ton of it here at Castle Buckler. The problem is that we’ve seen so much of it that I need a little break. It almost seems like Netflix felt my pain and offered me exactly what I need in this week’s releases. Now, to be fair, there are some holiday-themed releases amongst them, but I’ll leave you to find those on your own. This week, I want to take a look at two picks for Mrs. Buckler and I and one for our youngest child. You might even want to stream some of these shows, yourself.
Spirit Riding Free: Ride Along Adventure (December 7, 2020)
I said I wasn’t going to review any holiday movies, but I never said I wouldn’t highlight children’s programming. Such is the case with Spirit Riding Free: Ride Along Adventure. This is the movie equivalent of those “choose your own adventure” books we Gen Xers used to read in our youth. (I loved those!) If your kids are feeling a little cooped up lately, this could be just the thing for them. Hand them the remote control and let them help Maricela get her horse back from a group of bandits.

Rose Island (December 9, 2020)
Have you ever wanted to just build your own island kingdom and get away from it all? Well, one man does in this Netflix original. Giorgio Rosa (Elio Germano) is an idealistic engineer who decided to build his own island off the coast of his native Italy and declare his new home a nation. “Rose Island” soon becomes a destination hotspot for the young, partying types, and the Italian government takes notice. Notable cast members include Matilda De Angelis (The Undoing) and Tom Wlaschiha (Game of Thrones).

The Mess You Leave Behind (December 10, 2020)
I couldn’t do a what’s-new-on-Netflix post without mentioning a new original series. Season one of The Mess You Leave Behind kicks off on this day. By the looks of things, this Spanish-language thriller will have viewers on the edges of their seats! The show’s premise is about a young teacher starting a job at what seems to be a dangerous high school. This teacher becomes obsessed with the suspicious death of the teacher she replaced… and it seems like a lot of people at school have something to hide.
